It may not seem it by looking at the clothes I wear or even my blog but when someone asks me what my favourite colour is I don’t say black – I say burgundy.
When I first read about Sophistique Noirs love of the colour purple it made me think of my love of burgandy and of how these colours are often worked into darker wardrobes. So, below I’m going to be talking about how you can compliment all those tones of black with an edge of colour.
My Ode To Purple Goth-fashion!
Guys, try not to hate my collage too much since I worked on it for six hours and nearly died of exhaustion because apparently I’m ridiculously bad at making these things. Hopefully, I’ll get better in the future.

Tips And Tricks
- Colour makes it so much easier to diversify outfits and will always bring a different touch to an outfit you’ve worn a thousand times but it doesn’t have to be a huge change!
- When going with a bold colour try using it as a running theme throughout the outfit and accessories.
- Cyber Goth isn’t the only subculture of which to be inspired. Punk, Panda-Popare, Grunge, Kinderwhore are also notable for darker outfits with colours.
- Work colour into different textures, such as purple fishnets or a red chiffon scarf worn around your head.
- Wear sheer clothes or lace items over muted reds and purples.

- Belts are great for separating different patterns and/or materials (for instance plaid and velvet) but are also good for adding giant pops of colour.
- Patterns with tinges of colour in them are brilliant when you aren’t used to colour. It gives a hint of colour but doesn’t overwhelm.
- Patterned, stripped or fishnet stockings!
- Jewellery with ruby, amethyst and jade tones work well with black and don’t take away that dark edge.
- The simplest and cheapest way to add pops of colour is in your make up! Try a bright purple lip or a heavy plum?

Your tips are very useful- I usually follow some of them when I decide to have a break from all black.
Coloured tights with black lace tights are one of my favourite ways to add some colour. Or when I'm running late, I wear my b&w striped cardigan or striped thigh high socks… Or I just wear all black except for either a top or a skirt (I'm terrible with accessories!)
But in summer I might be walking around with a pink dress with a heart pattern… Good thing in Britain summer usually lasts for about 4 weeks!

Great tips (and I love your collage!). I'm in love with those shoes now! 😉 Good idea about using accessories as the sole source of color in a black outfit. I have an Alchemy Gothic choker with deep amethyst enamel that looks best with an all-black outfit. I'm glad you mentioned belts, too. They seem to be the most overlooked accessory in the Goth world. I only started wearing them after I started reading fashion blogs, and they are an excellent way to add shape to an outfit AND change it up with pops of color!
Useful tips!
My favourite is to wear a red headband, red belt and red heels OR tights with fishnets over them.
Just like Claudia, I like colourful thights with lacey ones/ fishnets over them.
I have been struggling with colors for so long. I find it very hard for me to add that touch. This was a really great post. Thank you. :).
My favourite way to add a pop of colour is usually with a nail or lip colour and super bright eye shadows in multiple colours. Aside from that I tend to stick with all-black, although I adore lustres, especially green-purple lustres. Wonderful post you have here! xxx

lol i have to admit, I still think “cybergoth” when I think colors… but then again I tend to think cybergoth for everything. Lovely collage…but have you considered using Polyvore for collages? I made my purple-themed collage for this challenge in like a half hour or less. It's way easier than using photo-editing software. You can also pull images from the web as you're browsing and it'll save it in your image bank.
I think I need those tights.

I'm a huge burgundy fan, too. I don't have many purple clothes, but I have a fair bit of burgundy, including boots and shoes.
