Working Colour Into Your Wardrobe: Tips, Tricks & An Ode To Purple

It may not seem it by looking at the clothes I wear or even my blog but when someone asks me what my favourite colour is I don’t say black – I say burgundy.

When I first read about Sophistique Noirs love of the colour purple it made me think of my love of burgandy and of how these colours are often worked into darker wardrobes. So, below I’m going to be talking about how you can compliment all those tones of black with an edge of colour.

 My Ode To Purple Goth-fashion!

Guys, try not to hate my collage too much since I worked on it for six hours and nearly died of exhaustion because apparently I’m ridiculously bad at making these things. Hopefully, I’ll get better in the future.

 Tips And Tricks

  • Colour makes it so much easier to diversify outfits and will always bring a different touch to an outfit you’ve worn a thousand times but it doesn’t have to be a huge change!
  • When going with a bold colour try using it as a running theme throughout the outfit and accessories.
  • Cyber Goth isn’t the only subculture of which to be inspired. Punk, Panda-Popare, Grunge, Kinderwhore are also notable for darker outfits with colours.
  • Work colour into different textures, such as purple fishnets or a red chiffon scarf worn around your head.
  • Wear sheer clothes or lace items over muted reds and purples.

  • Belts are great for separating different patterns and/or materials (for instance plaid and velvet) but are also good for adding giant pops of colour.
  • Patterns with tinges of colour in them are brilliant when you aren’t used to colour. It gives a hint of colour but doesn’t overwhelm.
  • Patterned, stripped or fishnet stockings!
  • Jewellery with ruby, amethyst and jade tones work well with black and don’t take away that dark edge.
  • The simplest and cheapest way to add pops of colour is in your make up! Try a bright purple lip or a heavy plum?

How do you add colour into your wardrobe? Or are you more of a black on black person, like myself? Also, be sure to check out Sophistique Noir’s monthly theme of purple!

      I Breath, my Messiah.

I am more than just a face.
      Or am I?
      With thoughts that flutter,
      and a deep
      sense of self. I breath.

      A point, a plane, non-essential existence.
      Who is my messiah now?

Talking snakes, fish and rules. Rules. Rules.
Or the ape. FLUTTER ME AWAY.

Let’s await that day where earth
is engulfed in flame and we
      were all wrong.

What will be our skin colour then,
      more than veins.

I am death – to face this world
      of impurity.
My god is better than yours.
Let us fight to the death.

We are deluded. You will not be saved.
I will not be caressed. He was
      not made to tussle hair
      or kiss lips.

      Colour Coordination (Image heavy)

This is relevant to the poll of the week on what colour you like best to mix with black. I wasn’t not shocked at all to find the top three being purple, red and then black on black. Closely followed by green. So, how am I going to relate it to a post about colour coordination? Well, I know all my followers have impeccable fashion taste and don’t need little ole’ Sary’s colour coordination tips! So, I’m going to cheat and let this post be a colour inspiration post with little tips here and there for adding colour.

My favourite place to add colour and one of the biggest Goth staples are, of course, striped tights/stockings/ect. Even if that means sheer black on black stockings for you black on black types!

The hair colour! I see a lot of other bloggers sporting lovely black locks but there are an equal amount that choose to go wild! Even if wild to you is a natural toned red.

Then there are those that choose to go all out with their combinations.

Some tips for adding colour to an outfit:

      • Focus on the details. Do you have a cardigan with little red roses on it? Add some red gloves to match!
      • Choose colours that are flattering to your skin and hair tone.
      • Why not match your make up while you’re at it!
      • Stockings (as already stated) are great for adding colour.
      • Jewellry and accessories!

      Best wishes,
      -Sary
P.s. be prepared what a post with some level of competence one of these days. Still battling with assessments and nerrr. When in doubt, post pretty pictures.

Poll of the Week: Colour Coordination!

      Link

This is a pretty simple question yet, considering you only get to choose one colour it might not be! What is your favourite colour to pair with black? This applies to non-Goths and Goths alike, really anyone who wears black.

      The options:

      • I prefer black with only black.
      • Pink.
      • Blue.
      • Red.
      • Purple.
      • Orange (for all those Halloween colours out there!)
      • Green.
      • And of course any other colour you can possibly think of.

Of course all colours are general and are just a basis for all the different gradients and hues of the colour spectrum. So, go ahead and pop up to my poll on the top right side bar and vote away! Don’t forget to leave a comment telling about your opinion because I love reading them all!

Bleaching My Hair: Round One and Two

Well, here are some pictures of round one and two of my hair bleaching. Kitty did the first and I did the second. It think, so far, it’s turning out very well. My hair is REALLY soft and not strawy at all.

The picture above is after I washed my hair the first time. I actually really liked the orange colour and brown. It looks greenish because of the light in my bathroom though and this is when it was still wet.

I took this picture after I drove Xary and Kitty home, after they witnessed round one and two. It’s after round two. I want the whole colour to be that white!

This is this morning after sleeping, in the daylight of my room which is a much better representation of the colour. I should be doing round three tonight or tomorrow depending on how my scalp feels. The hair is perfectly fine. It’s just my skin that isn’t dealing well.

What do you think? I’m not quite sure what colour I’m going to dye it after I finish bleaching and toning it. I might leave it white for a while!
