Day 05 – Your favorite monster movie

Usually I’m not one for monster films, I prefer psychological thrillers and paranormal films. If I had to choose my favourite monster movie I would choose Dracula. I haven’t actually seen the version of Dracula with Bela Lugosi in it but I have seen a later version a few times (actually a lot of times. Not because I loved it, it just seems to be on TV quite often) – that being the 1992 version.

I’m sure you’ll all probably know the plot of Dracula unless you’ve been living under a rock for your entire life. Though, I do have a friend that took a trip to the Harry Potter exhibition in Sydney a while ago. She’d been brought by parents that said she couldn’t watch it because her parents are very religious and she had to ask us, “Is Dumbledore the good or the bad one?” Anyway, the point to that crazy analogy is that I’m ‘borrowing’ the description from IMDb.

“This version of Dracula is closely based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel of the same name. A young lawyer (Jonathan Harker) is assigned to a gloomy village in the mists of eastern Europe. He is captured and imprisoned by the undead vampire Dracula, who travels to London, inspired by a photograph of Harker’s betrothed, Mina Murray. In Britain, Dracula begins a reign of seduction and terror, draining the life from Mina’s closest friend, Lucy Westenra. Lucy’s friends gather together to try to drive Dracula away.” – IMDb

Fun fact. I’m yet to fully get through the book. I’ve started it a few times but I really do prefer to jump straight into the action.

-Sary

Day 04 – Your Favorite Werewolf Film

This was a hard choice. I’ve seen a few memorable werewolf films, like Underworld and Blood and Chocolate but the best, that I can remember, that isn’t Ginger Snaps (because I’ve already mentioned it would have to be Skinwalkers – a film very loosely based on Native American legends (by the same name). But then again aren’t most Werewolf films?

I first saw this film six years ago while at a friends. We were trolling the pay per view films adn stumbled across this – back then we were both babybats and decided “WEREWOLVES, WE HAVE TO WATCH THIS”. I have to admit it’s a pretty kickass film. If not only for the scene where everyone in the town is suddenly a werewolf and all, including the main characters eighty year old grandmother, pulls out their shotguns. The deal is that the werewolves exist because they are missing a gene. A boy is born who contains an antidote to the missing gene and of course, becomes a target of two rival werewolf gangs.

Day 03 – Your favourite slasher.

My favourite slasher would have to be Sweatshop, if only for the characters all being Goths. To be honestly the plot made me go crazy because it was THAT horrible, much more thought could have gone into it but apparently it was the result of a porn film – porn + killing = this movie, thought there are still quite a lot of sex, thought it involves people dying in the midst.

IMDB say, “A group of friends break into an abandoned factory in order to throw a impromptu party (actually a rave); unaware that it is not as empty as they originally believed.”

The plot also includes some ‘drama’ when the main character finds out some of the girls have been selling tickets for sex during the party. This isn’t a film for children, though the horror is mild at best. In my opinion at least.

Day 02 – The horror film that you relate most to

Ginger Snaps Trilogy

The Ginger Snaps Trilogy (mostly the first movie) is something a lot of women can relate to as it’s generally a large metaphor based on development in adolescence – seen through Ginger getting her period and generally becoming a monster, among a lot of other aspects. It’s also heavily relate-able that the sisters are exiled and somewhat weird. They dress in a mix of grunge, with layers of thrift store finds and hand-me-downs, with a gothy edge.

“Is becoming a woman analogous, in some deep psychological way, to becoming a werewolf? Ginger is 16, edgy, tough, and, with her younger sister, into staging and photographing scenes of death. They’ve made a pact about dying together. In early October, on the night she has her first period, which is also the night of a full moon, a werewolf bites Ginger. Within a few days, some serious changes happen to her body and her temperament. Her sister Brigitte, 15, tries to find a cure with the help of Sam, a local doper. As Brigitte races against the clock, Halloween and another full moon approach, Ginger gets scarier, and it isn’t just local dogs that begin to die.” – IMDb

P.S. I wont be posting the poll of the week until next week! Sorry, guys!

Day 01 – A horror film that no one would expect you to love, but you do.

Paranormal activity is that ‘horror film’. Generally because it’s a very popular and not very good horror film. I enjoy it because it’s somewhat realistic, apart from the last film. I like the camera view because Blair Witch is one of my favourites! So, anyway, here are some pictures:
