How I Style my Summer Basics Wishlist in my Dreams (Summer to Winter)

Okay, so I understand that for some of you that summer is winding down and life is hitting that perfect Halloween temperature (anyone else ogling the Halloween previews already?). But when I buy an item with summer in mind I almost never pack it away during winter; jumpers can be layered, thigh-highs pulled taught and when wearing coats all day I can get away with layering a long sleeve under a chiffon blouse without anyone even noticing.

“I don’t need no body”; I don’t know about you but I need this t-shirt. It looks super-super comfy (100% cotton) and it’s the kind of shirt that will be great all year round but still holds Halloween hints that I love. In summer I’d feminine it up with the suspender skirt and thigh-highs (maybe a kimono if the sun is feeling mame-y) or work it with some docs and a leather jacket in winter (probably with a long sleeve underneath or my favourite ripped knit jumper).

The suspender skirt is something that I’ve been looking what seems like a life-time. Ever since Unif had their red tartan version that I fell for far-too-late (that skirt sold out fast!). For winter I’d layer a crop knit jumper with a long sleeve underneath, and a big coat over the top.

Military button-down, after military button-down has found its way into my wishlists and then disappeared from the internet. But I don’t think this staple shirt from Glamour Kills is going anywhere (it been around for ages). Perfect with a cardigan and wet-look leggings or a leather jacket. Let’s just admit that leather jackets go with everything.

I suppose this list isn’t actually a “in my dreams” post. Since a lot of these items – bar the wishlist items- I already own. The cropped sweater is supposed to this ripped knit sweater – just roll the sleeves and cut the waist-band off and the resemblance is stunning. Bring this post back to the point, What are your thoughts on summer-wear being worn all year round? Do you have any tips?

Goth Basics That I Don’t Actually Own!

You hear stories of people who focus on the staple items in their wardrobes. Well, I’m not one of them, but somehow I have the oddest mix of rather plain clothing that contains no basics! Don’t make my mistakes. I’ve always had it in my mind that I would just stumble upon basic clothing that is perfect but that doesn’t happen when you’re focusing on stripes and polka dots!

Heel-spiration, all images from Google.

If you’re unsure what Goth basics you’re missing check out my in-depth post on the topic here. (I worked really hard on it!)

A Fitted Black Skirt

This is the basis of most Gothy outfits! Yet I’ve never found the perfect one. Thrift stores love the black pencil skirt but that looks ridiculous on my shape and height. I just want a thick semi-body con, straight skirt!

Waist Coat

Not everyone’s kind of basic, but this has been something I’ve been looking for a long time! I want something formal in nature (no halternecks) but falls in a more casual way, loosely. Something that would be perfect for studding and adding pins.

 A Simple Pair of Heels

You may think that these aren’t a ‘Goth Basic’ but I’m committed to them being a basic for any wardrobe. When I say heels each person should find a height, thickness and style that they both like and feel comfortable. Many people when they hear the world heels they think stiletto but that isn’t the end-all-be-all of heels, guys!

If you’re still unsure about simple heels being ‘totes’ Goth, I’ve made you a little inspiration collage of well dressed Goth characters in heels at the top. Elvira’s stilettos, Nancy’s heeled granny boots and Vampira’s everything.

What are you missing? I could add that I’m missing a basic pair of winklepickers but I’ve found an awesome pair that I can’t wait to snatch up! Have you found something recently that you’ve been looking for forever?

My Goth Staples – Things I Buy in Bulk

Always in need of pointy boots – Source

My Goth Staples:

  • Boots, in any form you prefer. Personally I prefer anything with laces, whether platform or Docs.
  • A fitted, black a-line skirt. It’s good to automatically dress up any kind of blouse.
  • Simple black stockings. Mine are usually always ripped (either by choice or not, grrr) but after a plain pair it’s easier to branch out. It’s safe to always have something to fall back on. I don’t like to have colour in more than one aspect of an outfit, so black stockings/socks are a must.
  • A plain dressy blouse in white/red/black. Preferably black or white to start.
  • Cardigans! I don’t know if you’ve noticed but I’m almost always wearing a cardigan these days.
  • A band shirt/non-formal shirt. These can be dressed up with a fitted, a-line skirt or worn down with some ripped jeans.
  • One long sleeved blouse that you love. Good for layering, and winter.
  • A pair of pants, any pair of pants. Even I, the most resentful of pants are starting to realise how essential they are. Hence why I’ve been modifying a pair of jeans for a long time. I prefer skinny jeans as they remain feminine easily and generally suit anything but it can be plain shorts, booty shorts to wear under a short skirt, tights, etc.
  •  A plain black jacket/blazor/etc. In winter I end up resorting to one of two of my favourite jackets: a plain black rather long hoody that I’ve had since I was a Baby-bat or the fitted black cropped coat that I made myself. Though since I’ve recently constructed my newest blazor I pretty much wear that any chance I can get (since it’s rarely been cold here this winter).

 Things I Buy in Bulk:

  • Stockings/socks/etc. I go through so many pairs of stockings a week, plus they’re great for layering!
  • Ribbon. You’ll never know how versatile it is until you have it laying around. I’ve used it for makeshift necklaces for broken pendants, ribbons in my hair and as a cute bow accent around my neck.
  • Scarves, I have scarves in so many colours you would not believe. I actually wear them a lot more than it would seem on this blog. I suppose it’s because on a cold day I don’t particularly want to take outfit snaps.
  • Sun Screen. For me, this is an everyday thing.
  • Cardigans. I have so many cardigans in so many styles – for winter, summer, thin cotton, thick, etc.
  • Accessories. Accessories are great for building up any outfit. They’re good for when you’re out in a uniform or wearing something casual.

Best wishes,
