DECOR WISHLIST | CURIOSITIES

Can you see any similarities? Since I got a job (oh yeah, I got a job guys!) I’ve been more willing to spend money on unnecessary things to decorate my space. My colour scheme is white with red details, so I want to fill up all the blank space with more interesting bits and pieces that make me happy; like the occult!

I’ve been wanting to hang an Ouija board on my wall forever. I’ve debated getting a newer style but I’m stuck on the traditional Parker Brothers board. The cushions will be decorations on the chairs in my room. But that palmistry hand cushion in particular is amazing! I’ve been in love with palmistry for so long that I’ve actually been meaning to get palmistry symbols tattooed on my fingers. Lastly, do I even have to mention the gnarly molar dome? I don’t think you understand how much I need it in my life!

What do you think? Creepy or cool?

Wishlist | Accessories that Make the Nu-Goth

Now, I’m not one to talk about accessories much. I’m much more of a big picture – shoes or coat – kind of person. But there’s no doubt in my mind that accessories are what turn a few pieces of clothing into an outfit. They’re especially important for styles like Nu-Goth styles, that prefer a combining lots of elements for an overload-of-aesthetics kind of vibe. (Am I making any sense?)

Achille Hat

What would a Nu-Goth be without their trademark headwear? Whether that be a pentagram encrusted beanie or a hat positioned just so on the back out their head. (I always wonder if people can actually wear hats on the back of their heads all day.) Here I’ve opted for a conch banded slightly floppy hat, because I’m kind of obsessed with conch details and I hope no one will mistake it for a fedora.

Lime Crime Velvetine in Salem

A lot of people are don’t like Lime Crime due to their history. But my personal opinion is only that the products I’ve tried I have liked. Anyway, the darker shades look like they would (and do, in a lot of Nu-Goth blogs) make a great Nu-Goth lip colour that dry matte so that it’ll last all day and wouldn’t get stuck in your totally hardcore hair, right?

I’m in love with the colour Salem because I think it’d be a nice change to my usual red tinted lip with still ticking my warm toned check-box. I will be trying this in the future, so stay tuned for that!

Crossed up Ring

Could a Nu-Goth really have too many crosses? Or too many rings? This ring is a perfect fit for a stacked-up look. It’d fit perfectly with my Metalhead Jewellery rings, and even my more delicate Bones N Birds Mus Hip Knuckle Ring would create a nice balance between the heavy crosses. While I prefer a load of metal on my fingers, for a super Nu-look throw it on with as many crystals, runes and moons you can find. The more rings, the more bad-ass.

Pentagram Earrings

What can I say? These earrings are not for the faint of heart. As an atheist (formerly Catholic) I’m all for wearing religious insignia – which is what I consider the pentagram to be – but be warned that it’s probably a good idea to understand what you’re representing.

Well, there you have it. A comprehensive list of the things I’m dying to try out. What kind of accessories do you think of when you think of Nu-Goth?

Wishlist: Red Velvet is my Spirit Animal (& My Inner Goth)

So, of course this post began in the form of a rant towards Coen about my love of red velvet/velveteen. I was in the process of explaining to him why I needed a skater-skirt in black velvet and in my “signature” red velvet. He was attempting to absently sound interested while playing Warframe, when he queried my use of the word “signature” in regard to the red velvet and opened a can of worms that he could not battle with while attempting to kill off an entire universe.

MIRACLE EYE | OASAP | GYPSY WARRIOR

Red velvet is a neutral in my wardrobe. It works with absolutely everything, and get’s worn alllll the time (I’m sure you’ve noticed). It has a certain quality to it that dresses up anything you could match with it – leopard print is a great example. But I was pretty shocked when I realised how little I actually own of it.

The Miracle Eye shorts caught my eye because of the shoe-lace style details on the side. It’s probably as sporty as I’d ever get (Last week I went on a six hour hike in Docs). The OASAP skirts are something I’ve already bought (and was arguing about above). They’re on sale for half-price, and I think they’d make great basics I’ll wear until they inevitably fall to pieces. The black-velvet skirt I’m picturing wearing with this one orange singlet I bought a year ago under the guise of “Oh, I’ll wear it for Halloween, it looks like a pumpkin face!” Maybe this skirt will bring it back to life?

Lastly, is the Gypsy Warrior crop top. This is a perfect excuse to wear velvet in summer. I spotted it in their latest Something Witchy Lookbook. The lookbook has some really interesting looks. So, if you’re looking for more contemporary The Craft inspiration they have you covered.

I suppose, it might just be my inner Goth screaming to be released. Sooner or later I’ll have to shut it up with a little more lace and velvet. What’s your inner Goth screaming for?

Review | Birds N Bones Mus Hip Knuckle Ring

The lovely people (actually, I think it’s person) over at Birds N Bones Jewelry noticed my Heavy Metal Ring Wishlist and decided to send me the Mus Hip Knuckle ring I mentioned. Obviously, on that note, all of this is purely my honest opinion and comes from a person who is at best a “ring beginner.”

How amazing is this packaging?

The title suggest it’s a knuckle ring so I was drawn to it because I have tiny fingers. Originally I was a bit nervous (I have horrible luck with rings) but it fits nicely. It fits pretty well as a normal ring for me but at the same time it’s slightly adjustable. I wouldn’t go push it to it’s limits though, because eventually the metal will break – something that has happened to me before.

The design is far more delicate than I had imagined. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t intricate. There are tiny little details cast into the metal, all over it. Originally I considered try it out as a septum ring (Is that strange? I mean come on, a mice hip bone septum ring!) but I would not suggest putting this through your piercings due to the many sharp bumps that have been cast into it.

Can I just come right out and say the packaging was amazing? This is by far the best packaging I have ever received for a product.A feather for birds and a bone for, well, bones were tied to the ring-box. I’m probably a little too happy for packaging but these little pieces came perfectly just in time for halloween. If you have any ideas of what I can do with them let me know?

While this product was free, I would happily pay for another. I already have a few new pieces from their website on my ‘to buy’ list. What do you think? Do you have any favourites from their website? Oh and be warned, there are more rings on the way!

How I Style my Summer Basics Wishlist in my Dreams (Summer to Winter)

Okay, so I understand that for some of you that summer is winding down and life is hitting that perfect Halloween temperature (anyone else ogling the Halloween previews already?). But when I buy an item with summer in mind I almost never pack it away during winter; jumpers can be layered, thigh-highs pulled taught and when wearing coats all day I can get away with layering a long sleeve under a chiffon blouse without anyone even noticing.

“I don’t need no body”; I don’t know about you but I need this t-shirt. It looks super-super comfy (100% cotton) and it’s the kind of shirt that will be great all year round but still holds Halloween hints that I love. In summer I’d feminine it up with the suspender skirt and thigh-highs (maybe a kimono if the sun is feeling mame-y) or work it with some docs and a leather jacket in winter (probably with a long sleeve underneath or my favourite ripped knit jumper).

The suspender skirt is something that I’ve been looking what seems like a life-time. Ever since Unif had their red tartan version that I fell for far-too-late (that skirt sold out fast!). For winter I’d layer a crop knit jumper with a long sleeve underneath, and a big coat over the top.

Military button-down, after military button-down has found its way into my wishlists and then disappeared from the internet. But I don’t think this staple shirt from Glamour Kills is going anywhere (it been around for ages). Perfect with a cardigan and wet-look leggings or a leather jacket. Let’s just admit that leather jackets go with everything.

I suppose this list isn’t actually a “in my dreams” post. Since a lot of these items – bar the wishlist items- I already own. The cropped sweater is supposed to this ripped knit sweater – just roll the sleeves and cut the waist-band off and the resemblance is stunning. Bring this post back to the point, What are your thoughts on summer-wear being worn all year round? Do you have any tips?

Five Basics I WILL Buy This Year | PART TWO

This is an unexpected sequel because I didn’t think I had the will power to stick to my original Will-Buy list. The will-buy list is in contrast to a wishlist, because it is items that I will be buying this year within reason. (Tarte the creator of the original bb-cream has dropped the ‘Cruelty Free’ label and so I’m not sure what I think yet.) Check out my reasoning’s for doing a yearly “will-buy” list rather than a wishlist in part one here.  But other than that, lets talk about the gaps in my wardrobe that need filling.

A Fitted Pea Coat/Millitary Inspired Coat

Currently I have my eye on Asos’s Pea Coat because I love the thick materials and overall style of their coats. But Coat’s are a tricky thing for me to find. Well, to find something that looks and fits right. Do you guys get that too? Are coats just tricky to find the perfect fit? Anyway, my wardrobe is yerning for a thick warm winter coat, specifically in black.

Leather Look Leggings

When ever I look for leather look leggings or even leggings in general I always end up questioning the quality. Which is why I always fall back into the Blackmilk bucket, since they’re renowned for leggings that don’t loosen up or fall apart in a few days. Not exactly “leather-look” but their plain wet-look leggings have been on my wishlist for what seems like a century. Great for simple winter layering that doesn’t weigh a tonne.

Voodoo Vixen’s Plain Black Cardigan

This one is a definite. After buying the green leopard cardigan I realised how much I was in love. The fit is perfect, fabric amazing, there’s no strange stretch to the fabric that turns it different colours or stretches the pattern. My old fitted black cardigan is on it’s way out and it’s time I bought a replacement.

Pleaser’s T-strap D’orsay Pump

I wouldn’t know if everyone needs a pair of killer heels, but on my way to finding out I’ve decided I need these in my life. The heel is three inches on the shorter version and the style is adorable but bad-ass at the same time. I know I wouldn’t wear them too often but they’re something I would love to invest in. Especially since it’s a well-known Goth and Fetish Brand.

Stick-on Nails for Adults

Continuing the nail attempts (rather than trend) are the Broadway stick-on nails that it seems every YouTuber I watch recommends; okay, maybe not the atheists. I’d love to try these in the shade ‘Casting Call‘ but they’re never in stock in my store. I’ve been considering giving in and just painting over one of the less me-ish designs with black.

So, here are the things you’re probably going to see on my blog rather soon. My mouth can’t stop watering at that coat which may or may not be a sign. But overall, these aren’t things that I’ve just randomly fallen for but things that are filling gaps in my wardrobe (or replacing downtrodden favourites). Would you ever considering creating a will-buy list? What do you think is leaving a gap in your wardrobe?

Clothes I’ve Told Myself I would Never Like | Wishlist

While we’re here don’t forget to enter my piercing jewellery giveaway right over here!

We’ve all done it, broken our own rules. But that’s okay, we can all be super hypocritical at times. It’s best to accept it and revel in your sudden obsession with leopard on leopard, or frilly socks with peep-toe shoes. Because it’s when we break our own rules that we start having fun and stop dictating what we should and shouldn’t like! So, in the spirit of this totally inspirational little paragraph, I’m going to share my completely shameless wishlist items that I couldn’t stand just weeks ago.

East Village Pin-Up (Bettie Page) shot by the obviously talented Tony Fischer

Shorts that are Practically Underwear

These leopard print underwear (oh, they’re shorts, are they? Totally knew that) that are currently on sale. But alas, I have to use all of this weeks precious money on blankets and pillows that don’t smell like mildew and that I’ve had since I was ten – that was ten years ago. How dare winter bear it’s money consuming head and tell me I need something to survive?

Well, that was a long tangent. The point of these shorts is that I love them. They look super comfy and they’re covered in leopard print. But it was only last week that I was complaining about shorts that were practically underwear to a far-too-fashionable friend. I’m a self-proclaimed hypocrite. The only thing I’m left wondering about is can I fit stockings under them?

Pre-ripped Shorts

On the topic of denim we have pre-ripped shorts. I honestly have no excuse other than I am just that lazy. You might as well take my Goth card.

Stone-washed Jeans

Okay, so these are black, does that buy me an excuse? No? It was worth a try. These are definitely something I’m going to shut to the back of my mind until every second picture on tumblr isn’t of some pretty person wearing stone-washed jeans. Aka, when I find out if I’ve been brainwashed.

Are you a dedicated lover of any of these items? Tell me why, convince me! Alternatively, what do you shamelessly love?

Creepy Favourites Wishlist!

You guys know how much I love creepy things, right? It’s probably one of the biggest compliments I could give to any particular item. Between eyeballs and collecting bones, here are my favourite creepy bits and pieces of late!

NecklaceEarringsT-shirtBag

These are all pieces that have all been on my wishlist forever. The Iron Fist bag is something I bought recently (I can’t wait for it to arrive!) and I’m hoping will be great for lugging around notebooks this semester. The Toothy Grin Necklace, as it’s called, is going to be mine as soon as my next paycheck comes in! It’s not real teeth – I think real teeth don’t look very appealing – instead they’re vintage dentist teeth for choosing dentures! Besides that, my love of Ouija is growing strong and I can’t wait to snatch the rest of these up in the foreseeable future.

Would you wear any of these things? Or have you bought anything particularly creepy you just need to show me? Send me a picture on my Facebook, because just yes – please!

Outerwear Roundup: January ’14’s Good, Bad and Completely Traumatising

Don’t forget about my giveaway. If you look Gothy characters, with great style and Hoodoo plot you’ll love this. There’s less than three days until it ends. Don’t forget to fill out the rafflecopter widget at the bottom of the post (that can be easily found by clicking right here)!

This post on outerwear for Sophistique Noirs monthly theme isn’t my usual outfit post. (Check her out for the love of goth here! – Are agnostics even allowed to make religious puns?)  Instead it’s a kind of wishlist outlining some things that I want, that I’ve bought and that just were not meant to be throughout the month of January.

The Good

I bought two new coats from my usual leather jacket place, SheInside. They haven’t arrived yet but I’m really excited because I’ve been wanting a faux fur leopard print coat for what seems like forever. The other is a straighter styled black coat with fake leather trim. I wanted something that would be easier to pair than the coat pictured below that overwhelms any outfit. Both were on sale!

Photograph from this outfit post.

The Bad

As for something bad I was a bit stumped for this one. Instead I’ll list things I want but probably won’t get for some time. (Boo to not being able to buy everything in the world right this second!) The first is a utilitarian style anorak in a military style and on that note a military coat that isn’t too heavy or offensive – but that’s kind of what my dreams are made of rather than anything I’ll actually stumble upon. Other than that I would love a denim jacket – preferably in a darker wash or with kickass patches. Which brings us to the traumatising.

The Traumatising

Currently I’ve been obsessed with adding statement pieces to my wardrobe (I’ve felt really boring; do any of you know this feeling?), so of course I decided to browse the Hot Topic website. Unbeknownst to me, upon falling in love with a certain denim jacket I found they actually have the most ridiculously high international shipping (even for Canadians). But I was determined, I was so far into the mindset that if I didn’t have this jacket I would probably died purely from lacking it. It was then I found that those outside of the US can’t use Paypal. Searching the internet and finding nothing but Amazon had to convince me that it must not have meant ‘to be’. Que first world disappointment.

Do you guys get so invested in items that you would probably battle to the death for them? It can’t just be me! What are your outerwear wishes and woes of the new(ish) year?

Which Shoe Would You Choose: Summer Flats

Jeffery Campbell, Niko, flats, flat, shoes, shoe, Brogue, wishlist, modcloth, seedless, romanctic, dorothy, perkins, nasty gal, patent, black,
NikoRomanticBrogues

You know what really annoys me when I’m shopping for shoes online? When the retail doesn’t include a picture of the shoe worn. It’s like buying a dress without knowing how the material is going to fall! But I digress, this post is actually about my need for a new pair of flat shoes. Not house flats (My newest pair of flats has fallen into that position), but some thing a little fancy, that I could wear in summer without overheating and is good quality. Something that I won’t wear while learning how to use a whipper snipper (for some of you that may be called a weed-wacker) like I did today.

So above are the options that I’m considering. Each with their ups, downs and varying quality. None including a large heel. Which shoe would you choose?
