ELF: Voodoo & Posh

Silly me, mentioning this review a few weeks back thinking it’d be up any time soon. It took me four different lighting settings to get the colours to show anything like they actually are; even so, I ended up throwing my head near-outside my window! But alas, it is finally here! You can find the lipsticks on the ELF website, here.

Posh

Colour: Reddy, berry shade.
Texture: This lipstick is a lot more moist than the Voodoo, which does mean it becomes a little more sheer. It’s very easy to get streaks because of this.
Tone: In tone, this lipsticks a bit of a savior. It’s definitely a cold. blue tone, but because it’s more natural in shade it doesn’t accentuate the red areas of my face too much. It might even look natural on colder tonned skin.
Lasting: It would last at least six hours without anything to drastic happening to the mouth. You would definitely have to fix it after eating.
Build: Sheer and not very buildable

Voodoo

I’m not going to lie, the name was a big factor in my decision to buy this one! For good reason, I suppose, since it’s my favourite lipstick and I wear it most days I leave the house.

Colour: Peachy, pinky-red
Texture: Definitely on the matte side. Accentuates dry lips a lot.
Tone: Very warm toned.
Lasting: Because it’s more matte it last pretty long. A twelve hour day at uni would be no problem with a few touch ups.
Build: More build-able than Posh but building does accentuate dryness even more.

Voodoo (Left) – Posh (Right)

Price wise each lipstick is only three dollars, so it’s great to experiment with more natural colours for those of you that love black lips. Plus, I bought mine on the five dollar express shipping sale. But you certainly get what you pay for: they don’t last an insane time, don’t stain well, have a very limited colour range and the packaging is feels like it would break very easily. To add to that while ELF is cruelty free I’m almost completely sure they aren’t vegan. All together, I’m rather happy!

What lipstick brands are your favourite? Any you think I should to try out?

Fashion Idols & Summer Essentials

Distressed/Modified Vest

Lately I’ve been engulfed in a hazy eighties spiral of vintage clothes but I just haven’t been able to find the perfect waist-coat that I can customised as a kind of tribute to Andie from Pretty in Pink (pictured above). As an on and off search for the past few years it’s beginning to drive me crazy. But this goes just as well for the currently easy to find denim vets. I’m imagining tulle dresses with distressed denim vests. Not to mention tonnes of patches!.

Bustiers

This summer I’ve been lusting after bustiers. They’re great for heatwaves because they take up so little surface space and for those of you that also wear stockings every time you leave the house (or is that just me?) they create a nice cooling balance! A plain black bustier would go with any number of styles (punk and Romantic alike!). Personally, I’ve been looking out for a lingerie bustier that I could work into an awesome club-esque outfit, or simply as a base for sheer blouses.

Like this, except more black. – Link

Shawls

If you’re like myself and you feel a little exposed while wearing bustiers shawls are your answer. Actually, shawls are the answer to any summer outfit. You have something that protects you from the sun (any part that you wish!), it doesn’t cause much fiction or is too tight, easily removed and moved about, it’s an ‘ageless’ item of clothing (not that I believe your age should define what you wear), plus it’s an amazingly simple layer. I’ve been searching for the perfect vintage shawl with Stevie-Nicks-be-proud tassels and lace that I would happily spend the rest of my years with.

Summer Dresses

I only have about two dressed that I ever wear and I’m starting to feel that a few of the dresses I’ve had my eye on are falling into my list of “I don’t want this, I need this”. I haven’t had great experiences with Hell Bunny, but I’m pretty eager to give them another chance. And recently I’ve been collected a few eighties styled dresses that I can’t get out of my head!

What are you guys lusting after this season? Are you other-hemisphere-ian people missing summer already?

My Wardrobe Essentials

These are my personal wardrobe essentials that I couldn’t live without. I’d love to hear what your wardrobe essentials are so post them in the comments!

A good pair of everyday shoes/A quality pair of boots

My first wardrobe essentials for my goes hand in hand with my second point. I was sick of terribly quality shoes that only last a couple of months and are falling apart but that was remedies with the boot love of my life: My Doc Martens.

An Assortment of Interesting and Varied Leg-ware.

Leg-ware includes stockings, tights, leggings, socks, leg warmers, etc in a variety of patterns, colours and thicknesses. It’s an easy way to change up a look and I tend to go through a LOT of these in an average week.

Belts/scarves

With my recent (you guys haven’t heard yet) wardrobe reinvention I’ve decided I need more belts, scarves, and larger accessory type things. They like leg-ware make it easy to change up a look but also make the outfit what it is.

Cardigans/Light jackets/Light Jumpers

When was the last time I posted an outfit without wearing a cardigan or a coat? It’s not often.

High Waisted Skirts

High waisted skirts have grown on me immensely in the last year or so, every since I found an amazing pattern for a pleated high waisted skirt. In some respects it will be my downfall but I’m attempting to at least branch out a little.

Best wishes,
