Outfit Post: Elizabethan Inspired Coat Transformation – With A Touch of Deathrock

I’m in love with this outfit and I think this is my best outfit yet. I was so happy to wake up to pouring rain and concerning winds (I was very worried about the cats and my partner getting to work) but I was so happy to get a chance to wear this coat that I tailored, for the first time. You would probably remember this coat from it’s review here and another outfit post I did with it here (oh god, it’s embarrassing looking back on). I really wanted to go for an elegant feel today. I’m lucky that it was so cold considering it’s summer here!

Cutting this coat up was so frightening, considering it’s a two hundred dollar coat that was a gift from my partner. Of course I checked with him first and well, he didn’t even remember buying me it. Even so, I knew I had to do something with it, otherwise it would hang under all my other coats for another year. Buying it was a complete catastrophe but I can finally feel better about it. Damn you Fanplusfriend custom sizing!

I ended up raising the waist line and making it straight rather than pointed as it’s more flattering on my figure. I removed the arms, slimmed them down and removed the puff sleeves, made some alterations (some of the buttons were coming off and the lining parts needed adjustment) and completed remodelled the cuffs (though they aren’t what I wanted them to be).

Don’t mind the creme on my nose, it’s Bepanthen. (Yes, I’m STILL unhappily fighting infection).

My hair actually has curled extensions in it. It’s not actually completed in this photos and looks a tad messy. Curled extensions are so useful when you don’t want to use heat on your hair or any product and generally it’s very fast – all I do is clip them in and clip some layers back so the curls peak out.

I had to take this rainy chance to get my favourite parasol/umbrella out, besides I was looking for elegance today!

Outfit:

Coat: Fanplusfriend originally, but remodelled and tailored by myself.
Socks: Cotton On. It’s so cold I have to wear crochet socks over my stockings!
Stockings: Anonymous.
Blouse: Secondhand.
Skirt: EBay. It’s my tulle cake skirt, layered underneath so you can’t really see it but it puffs the coat out nicely.
Boots: Dr. Marten.
Necklace: EBay. It’s an octopus.
Earrings: You can’t really see them but they’re my bird skulls from EBay.
Parasol: Alice and The Pirates (bought at Supanova)
Gloves: Anonymous.
Hair extensions: EBay and yes, they actually are human hair. I made sure to test them before curling them myself..

Fanplusfriend: Omnipotent Petticoat Review

For larger pictures right click and view picture. My thoughts in this review are not biased, I bought this item with my own money.

I’m wearing a fitted skirt under this
that’s showing through at the

I recently purchased this (link here) bell-shaped petticoat from Fan Plus Friend, the Gothic Lolita “Omnipotent” Petticoat for 100-180 Angle Cut Bottom. Before buying I was originally going to get the smaller sized one here. After reading terrible reviews and seeing very unflattering pictures I found that they usually put another petticoat under the petticoat being pictured. I thought it better to get the larger one that ended up being the size of the smaller one. I was still a little disappointed with the size though.

For the record I’m five foot, two inches and this was quite a bit shorter than it was suppose to be, which isn’t unlike Fanplusfriend.

Fluffiness of the petti while laying flat.

Some layers of the petticoat.
I don’t particularly like the cheapness of the material. There are lots of layers and ruffles though. The material is a bit scratchy and not very soft.

There are layers of tulle combined with some organza. I prefer organza petticoats, my other is and it hasn’t deflated at all. I’ve heard horrible things about tulle petticoats deflating within days, but we’ll see how it goes.

There are loose threads everywhere, I’ve also read reviews of Fanplusfriends petticoats falling apart but it seems well put together, apart from the loose ends. I pulled it a bit to test and it the tulle and fabric both seemed easy to break but only with effort.

The tag that it always comes with. It’s always very pretty
The tracking Fanplusfriend sends me never seems to work. If it happens again next time I will message them just to see what their customer service is like.

Well, overall, it’s not a horrible petticoat but when it originally arrived I was rather upset. Over time I’ve realised it’s not the greatest loss. I still don’t think it’s worth the sixty dollars it cost, luckily it was on sale. The sale is still on for shipping in case anyone wants to know. There will be pictures of this petticoat under a dress coming when I get my new dress, if it ever arrives.

Review: FanPlusFriend Elizabethan Coat (Picture Heavy)

As some of you may have heard my lovely boyfriend bought me a FanPlusFriend coat for Christmas. I’ve been saying that I will eventually do a review for too long! So this morning while I had an idea about how to wear the coat I decided to take some detailing shots and finally write this up.

Don’t forget to click the photo’s for a larger view, or for an even larger view open into another tab or window.

Pro’s:

    •  The lace is amazing quality. Better quality lace than I have ever had before and I think I’ll be measuring other laces quality in comparison to this for a long time. The sleeves and collar sections are both lined in lace that’s perfect. They didn’t add too much at all, but just the right amount and selected it carefully.
    •  The brocade is wonderful, though at times makes the fabric look a lot more silver than it actually is. I think it’s perfect, very pretty and doesn’t have any fabric mistakes at all.
    •  The tag isn’t uncomfortable at all and isn’t is a ridiculously showy place like I know some brand names tend to do.

Con’s:

    • There are strings is parts of the fabric that stick out, generally at the buttons and where the fabric is sewn together, of course but it is a little annoying when you’re doing the buttons up. It always makes me think they’re horribly fragile.

    •  I really liked this coat because it had the option to put the skirt section up into a bustle affect but it turns out you haven’t wear a regular petticoat or crinoline underneath otherwise the back is ridiculously long. I think this is generally because the buttons to hold up the fabric to create this bustle affect are too close together. Alternatively you could use a bustle pad or pocket hoops pannier (which I think I might try because they look awesome!) or a combination of the two.
    •  In my other outfit post while still wondering how to wear this coat I complained about the arms, post here. You can obviously see that the arms are ridiculously too large and have almost no shape, this may be because I had my coat custom made and didn’t include enough measurements, so I’m not entirely blaming FanPlusFriend. I’ve began slightly altering it without actually sewing or cutting anything (a tips post that will be coming soon with explain this further) so it’s not too much of a problem any more, though it could be something to look out for.

Others:

    •  The coat isn’t lined but it does use a pretty well done fold over methods on the edges. It doesn’t really bother me. The coat is still amazingly warm.
    • This is not a coat to just throw on and off. There are nine buttons across the front that have corresponding loops of a thick string. It takes quite some time to properly button up this coat as the loops make sure the button just won’t slip out. It takes almost triple this time if you accidentally placed a button in a wrongly corresponding loop and have to undo them all and then redo.  Sure, it awesome though!

Anyway, here is my take on this lovely coat. All in all, I really love this coat and am looking for more opportunities to wear it, though it is summer here so that isn’t possibly for a little while. So, be sure to be seeing this coat styled differently in the future! Preferably when I start corseting again in summer. For anyone who wants the link to the website coat is here.

Yes, I’m a brand name Goth.

Okay, the title is an exaggeration. I’m far from a brand name Goth. In last weeks Poll of the Week we discussed Goth brand names and it’s connection to DIY. You may or may not have noticed that I haven’t yet posted the proceeding article on that yet. The reason for that was that I had no idea what you guys would like to hear! So, I finally came up with the idea that rather than rattle on about brand names and the facts I could show you guys the brand pieces that I already own. So, here goes!

Firstly make up.

From Left to right: Two Manic Panic Pressed powders (one’s empty, review here), Manic Panic Lipstick (Review coming), Lime Crime Lipstick (not really ‘Goth brand’, review here.)

Gallery Serpentine Corsets (I’ve only just realised both are velveteen.), one over bust, one under. Both second hand.

Fanplusfriend, my new coat. Review coming!

GLP, more of a Visual Kei brand but eh.

The skirt comes with a matching belt and pockets that attack to the belt in plaid.

The blouse is very frilly. A little too frilly.

 Lovechild Boudoir.

My neck corset (review here).

 Demonia.

Both Demonia.
The bag on the left is Demonia, the bag on the right actually isn’t. It’s another brand that I can’t remember. I don’t think Demonia coffin bags come in blue. I bought it off eBay so I don’t really remember. The bag on the left is the first ‘Gothy’ brand piece I ever bought.

 Death Threads
I’ve had this for years and it’s still perfectly intake and great!

Unfortunately I did own another death threads item, a blouse thing (picture below from the website). It was the worst blouse I’d ever owned. From day one the zip at the back did not want to work and eventually broke. It really let me down.

 Plastik Wrap.

Another product that let me down immensely. (Review here).

Well, that’s about it. I hope your pristine view of me wasn’t too dammaged (what I kidding! Hehe). I admit it! I’m a brand name whore!
Best wishes,
-Sart

Outfit Post: Fanplusfriend Coat

I’m aware that this outfit looks a little awkward. I was experimenting with different length skirts underneath the coat. I also look super-tall which is from the platform boots and the corset forcing me to stand up straight for once!

This isn’t a review as of yet.

I’m not sure what the deal with the arms are. They seem too large for me but that’s probably because I have SUPER thin arms – honest to god. It also looks like I’m being strangled to death but the bodice. Which isn’t true at all.

Outfit!

Coat: Fanplusfriend. Coen bought it for me for Christmas.

Neck Corset: Love Child Boudoir. This was bought a long time ago. I never get to wear it but I think I might be wearing it a lot more often now.

Corset: Gallery Serpentine. Given to me by Kitty.

Blouse: Kmart! You can’t see it.

Shorter skirt: Thrifted.

Longer skirt: Thrifted.

Shoes: Demonia. Bought from eBay.

Socks: I’m wearing bed-socks that were a gift. :3 Because, it’s not like anyone can tell!

Coen wore my top hat while failing at taking pictures of me. Hehe. He hates photos, that’s why he looks so uncomfortable.

What do you think: do you think this outfit failed?

Best wishes,
-Sary

Fan Plus Friend: Christmas Coat.

I’m so excited! My boy friend bought me a Fan Plus Friend coat for Christmas and it shipped yesterday! I thought I’d post some pictures for all you lovely followers to see! I can’t wait until it arrives! Exclamation mark!

Without a petticoat.

I think it’ll look gorgeous with the collar that I never get the chance to wear, shown at the bottom of this post. I’ll be sure to post photo’s when it arrives!
