Outfit Post: Elizabethan Inspired Coat Transformation – With A Touch of Deathrock

I’m in love with this outfit and I think this is my best outfit yet. I was so happy to wake up to pouring rain and concerning winds (I was very worried about the cats and my partner getting to work) but I was so happy to get a chance to wear this coat that I tailored, for the first time. You would probably remember this coat from it’s review here and another outfit post I did with it here (oh god, it’s embarrassing looking back on). I really wanted to go for an elegant feel today. I’m lucky that it was so cold considering it’s summer here!

Cutting this coat up was so frightening, considering it’s a two hundred dollar coat that was a gift from my partner. Of course I checked with him first and well, he didn’t even remember buying me it. Even so, I knew I had to do something with it, otherwise it would hang under all my other coats for another year. Buying it was a complete catastrophe but I can finally feel better about it. Damn you Fanplusfriend custom sizing!

I ended up raising the waist line and making it straight rather than pointed as it’s more flattering on my figure. I removed the arms, slimmed them down and removed the puff sleeves, made some alterations (some of the buttons were coming off and the lining parts needed adjustment) and completed remodelled the cuffs (though they aren’t what I wanted them to be).

Don’t mind the creme on my nose, it’s Bepanthen. (Yes, I’m STILL unhappily fighting infection).

My hair actually has curled extensions in it. It’s not actually completed in this photos and looks a tad messy. Curled extensions are so useful when you don’t want to use heat on your hair or any product and generally it’s very fast – all I do is clip them in and clip some layers back so the curls peak out.

I had to take this rainy chance to get my favourite parasol/umbrella out, besides I was looking for elegance today!

Outfit:

Coat: Fanplusfriend originally, but remodelled and tailored by myself.
Socks: Cotton On. It’s so cold I have to wear crochet socks over my stockings!
Stockings: Anonymous.
Blouse: Secondhand.
Skirt: EBay. It’s my tulle cake skirt, layered underneath so you can’t really see it but it puffs the coat out nicely.
Boots: Dr. Marten.
Necklace: EBay. It’s an octopus.
Earrings: You can’t really see them but they’re my bird skulls from EBay.
Parasol: Alice and The Pirates (bought at Supanova)
Gloves: Anonymous.
Hair extensions: EBay and yes, they actually are human hair. I made sure to test them before curling them myself..

Best wishes,

Outfit Post: Hell Bunny – Eye Balls – Death-Hawk

Recently I bought this Hell Bunny dress, called the Perry dress. I’ve been in love with it for probably more than six months and now its mine! I bought it as a study present for working hard and hopefully do well in my trial HSC exams. Though things are not looking good as I think I’m about to fall quite sick – my mum’s infected me with he flu. I just have terrible luck.

Outfit:

Dress: Hell Bunny (From Trash Monkey’s online store.)
Stockings: No idea.
Fishnets: No idea.
Headband: Supanova.
Cardigan: Thrifted.
Boots: Dr. Martens.

I really wanted to tease my hair up that day and practice some big death-hawk hybrid. I found that I actually missed some of my lower hair and it wasn’t as huge as I would have liked but it lasted all day like this. Then again I don’t think I’ll be doing my hair like this very often because it’s a complete bitch to get out. Forty-five minutes of untangling in the shower. And that’s after I put a leave in conditioner in for another forty-five minutes.

The dress is pretty nice, it’s a little bigger than I expected. Apparently I’ve lost two inches around my waist. Plus, I’m thinking of changing the straps – I knew when I bought the dress that halter-necks just don’t agree with me.

I think I might go take a nap now and attempt to ward off this sickness I can feel coming on. Bleh, wish me luck.
Best wishes,

Outfit Post: For Lack of a Better Come Back

Hey guys, it’s been about a week, I suppose, and lots of studying later. You can’t say I didn’t warn you. Here’s just a little outfit post of something I wore to run errands while my partner had an appointment. Nothing particularly special. Actually it was the outfit that I wore on Friday 13th. I had absolutely no idea it was that day until after we’d visited the cemetery on the way home and found out. What can I say? It’s shaded, quiet and somewhere to sit. That was all I wanted.

Before you get too immersed in this highly intellectual article you should check out Little Goth Cat’s blog here, titled The Adventures of Little Goth Cat. I’ve actually spoken to him outside of blog-land before! I can honestly say his articles (so far) are interesting not to mention (and I hope he doesn’t mind me saying this) he is absolutely adorable! So, go! Run! Subscribe!

Ahem – back to the outfit.

Wow, you can actually see my freckles.

This is my new everyday style of make up though. I think it seems a lot better and more face opening than my other. Though I do need to clean the corner of my eye better, next time. Recently I finally received a new primer that is a lot more effective than the last and has really boosted my options for everyday wear.

My hair… looks pretty crap. Everyday seems like a bad hair day so I just clamped it up.

Outfit:

Shoes: Dr. Marten.
Singlet: Best and Less (Yes, I know I’m that classy)
Cardigan: Sock’s and Jocks.
Socks: Too old to really remember.
Stockings: Cut up, probably from Kmart.
Skirt: Self-made. I really need to re-do the waist, it’s terrible.

Best wishes,
-SaryWalrus

Red and Black Week: A DASH-ing Outfit

The title isn’t me being egotistic it’s a terrible pun. I’m in so much of a rush today, well tonight here. It’s seven and I still need to do lots of housework and get started on assessments and homework. Ick, I feel terrible and can’t wait for the weekend. Tomorrows Friday though. I make it a habit to play and dance around to in joy, Friday! I’m in love, every Friday. No matter how cliché’ I enjoy it.

Anyway, onto the outfit!

Outfit:

Blouse: Thrifted.
Cardigan: Jocks and Socks.
Skirt: Bodyline – costume section actually but it doesn’t lack quality.
Stockings: Unknown.
Shoes: Dr Marten.

Ironically, I look rather terrible but as I said, dash! The point of this outfit was to show off my new pleated, tartan skirt. I really adore it though the sizes were terribly misleading and way too large.
Best wishes and happy Red and Black Week,
-SaryWalrus

Red and Black Week: Dark Shadow’s Outfit

This is the outfit in which I went to see Dark Shadows. I might look up the series it’s based on and see how it compares to the film because to me the ending was a little crazzzy.

Outfit:

Blouse: Second-hand.
Cardigan: Jocks and Socks.
Skirt: EBay.
Stockings: Kmart, kmart, secondhand and a lot of unknowns.
Necklace: Second-hand.
Boots: Dr Martens, online.

The only outfit picture I’ve really liked in a while. :3

You have no idea how many layers of stockings I am wearing. At least seven! It was absolutely freezing though it’s getting colder and I’m getting used to it so why not pile on the fishnets!

What better to go with red and black than amethyst? Particularly my favourite necklace that most of my readers will know was given to me by my grandmother.

The blouse I’m wearing is very faded, I’ll need to re-dye it preferably a darker red. It was given to me second-hand by my aunt and is actually at least four sizes too large for me though I always have it cinched at the waist anyway.

I hope you’re having a great red and black week!
Best wishes,
-SaryWalrus.

P.S. I’m not posting a video today as I’m attempting to buckle down and study. Sometimes it sucks being a good girl.

Outfit: Forgotten Birthday Party in Five Minutes

We all have those day when we wake up knowing that we were suppose to do something but just can’t remember what, so we go about our day doing our regular things. For me, that was the day of my best friends birthday party. It was only a small sleepover, which makes it a bit worse. I was the first one there though! Luckily her place is only five minutes away from mine.

I was already wearing these pants, my chore pants, while doing a lot of washing that morning. So, I just threw on a shirt and necklace. It’s clumsy but it was the best I could do in five minutes. Yes, I made time to take pictures (hehe!).

Outfit:
Shirt: Goth Angel.
Pants: Mother.
Necklace: Too old.
Boots: Dr Martens.

Best wishes,
-SaryWalrus

Outfit Post: Lolita Dress, Dr Martens and a Jabot.

The pictures of this outfit doesn’t do it enough justice, in my personal opinion. It was the wind that made the skirt look so un-fluffy – though I’m not wearing a petticoat with it. I have three petticoats, two that are very small and one that is way too huge!

There isn’t much to say about today. I don’t feel the best emotionally but that’s something I get used too. I just finished watching a film set in the 50’s that was really inspiring called Mona Lisa Smile. In retrospect it makes me feel horrible about the future and my own expectations in combination with the people around me.

 Outfit:
Blouse: Thrifted.
Cardigan: Given to me by mum.
Dress: Bodyline.
Jabot: Self-made.
Stockings: K-mart, probably.
Boots: Dr. Martens.

Anyway, I hope you all have a lovely day.
Best wishes,
-Sary Walrus

Outfit: Tarten Skirts, Dr Martens and The Cure

This was just a simple outfit for shopping today. I was eager to try out my Docs in town. Unfortunately I didn’t know about the pain of breaking in these boots until after I came home and some of my lovely readers enlightened me to this; unfortunately too late. But thank you still!

Outfit:

Shirt: The Cure shirt from eBay.
Cardigan: Given to me by my mum after borrowing it and never really giving it back.
Skirt: Self-made. I only finished sewing this a few days ago after putting it off for so long. It may look simple but I always sew all of my clothes completely by hand. For some reason I was dreading doing the waist-band but I decided to watch Pirates of the Caribbean (a film that doesn’t interest me much but Coen loves) and time flew while sewing!
Stockings: School winter stockings because it was freezing today!
Boots: Dr Martens!
Necklace: Broken amethyst, given to me by ,y grandmother.

The key to a pose that isn’t awkward: start walking towards the camera before the picture has been taken. Hence the position of my feet.

Best wishes,
-SaryWalrus

Outfit Post: My Dr Martens arrived!

This morning when I was barely dressed after showering there was a loud knocking at the door; my Dr Martens had arrived! I was so excited I wanted to run to the door as I was but that probably would have had resulted in mass amounts of embarrassment. Anyway, this is the outfit that resulted from my docs arriving otherwise I would have spent my day in pyjamas. This outfit was for merely doing housework: cooking, doing washing and driving my mum to work.

Outfit:

Blouse: Thrifted and is at least four sizes too big for me.
Jeans: I know, it’s HORRIFIC that I actually own pants. Not many of my good friends have ever seen me wear pants. When my mum couldn’t fit into a pair of jeans she decided to give them to me. At the time they were a dusty pale blue and tiny, so I wasn’t quite sure what to do with them. I ended up stretching them to two sizes bigger (which I read about how to do on the net), dyed them with black dye (they still aren’t as dark as I would like) and ripped them a bit. I’m still going to put zips on sections, add some patches of bands that I like (which I’ll probably have to make because there doesn’t seem to be any Jack Off Jill patches around. -sadface-) and some more bits and pieces.
Sweater: It’s a another blouse that I took parts off; the collar and cuffs.
Boots: Dr Martens.

The silly pose is the result of paranoia of you not being able to see my boots. I know, it’s kind of ‘what’. My face, a result of the pose wasn’t exactly pleasant either.

Best wishes,
-SaryWalrus

Skinheads: My Truth, Their Misconceptions

This is an article that I’ve been meaning to write for a while. I absolutely adore Skinhead fashion but there are a lot of myth’s about the Subculture that I find ridiculous that I will address.

Aren’t Skinhead’s merely someone who shaves their head?

It really annoys me when someone says this as it isn’t at all true. Skinheads are members or the Skinhead Subculture. A subculture that has a broad history, it’s own musical influences and styles, fashion and fashion influences and enjoy aspects of the skinhead lifestyle. These aspects will be briefly explained below.

I always thought Skinhead’s were racist?

Originally the Skinhead subculture was actually influences mainly by Jamaican Rude boys and held no common trait of racism at all. In the late 1960’s some Skinheads begun engaging in violence against immigrants, this became the way some Skinhead’s align themselves and group themselves. Yet, Skinheads are still people. Everyone of them have varying opinions and to lump all members of the subculture together with a section that brought this bad name for all Skinheads to be racist is ridiculous.

What about gay/lesbian/bi people, don’t they hate them?

This is along the same lines as my response to racism stereotypes. It’s explained greatly in this documentary called Skinhead OUT! which you can watch both part one and part two on youtube. There is no one mindset that applies to all of the Skinhead community. I must say again: they are people, each with their own opinions, morals and ideals.

Why are all Skinhead’s pale in demeanour?

Not all Skinhead’s are Caucasian, there were and still are coloured skinheads. This is another stereotype that runs along the lines of all skinheads are racists.

A Brief History

It all started in the late 1950’s when the United Kingdoms economy boom meant some had extra money in their pockets. This developed the mods whom were known by their devotion to scooters, music, fashion and consumerism. Those mods of a lesser income of the working class went for a practical style including work boots, straight legged jeans, buttoned down shirts and braces. After controversy between the smooth mods (The more expensive mod) and the hard mods (working class) which around 1968 became more commonly called Skinheads. Skinhead’s kept some of the mod influences with an emphasis on Jamaican Rude Boy style and culture.

Skinhead Music

The Skinhead Subculture was originally associated with soul, reggae, rock-steady and ska but once those genre’s started directing themselves towards black nationalism themes, which most white skinhead’s couldn’t relate too, the music was transformed. In the 1970’s 2Tone was one of the most popular genre’s of the Skinhead Subculture which included the Jamaican influences combined with Punk Rock. After the first wave of punk rock some Skinhead’s embraced Oi!, Punk’s working class sub-genre, which combined football chants, punk rock and glam rock.

Why do Skinhead’s shave their head’s?

Traditional skinhead’s commonly shaved their head’s as they were workers and it was more suitable or practical. Another reason would be in defiance of the hippie culture for some. There’s also, of course, they may merely have liked the style.

Skinhead’s all look the same!

Just in case you didn’t sense my sarcasm, sarcasm intended. Of course Skinhead fashion is typically branded by their shaved heads, but not always, the styles have changed quite a bit through the years. It’s much easier to separate them into sections, though of course this doesn’t at all limit the variation.

Trojan Skinheads (Traditional Skinheads)
These, of course, follow the typical style of the 1960’s with braces, flight jackets, button down shirts, polo shirts, cardigans, denim jackets, v-necks, straight legged jeans, work boots and such, with head shaved at a #2 or #3 grade clip guard (The same as my undercut).

Oi! Skinheads
Oi! Skinheads are influenced by 1970’s Punk, often with shorter hair (typically #2 grade or shorter), higher boots, tighter jeans and tattoo’s. Mods were much less influential than traditional Skinheads.

Hardcore Skinheads
This style is much less strict including leather/army jackets, wife beaters, looser jeans (sometimes torn), hoodies, bandanna’s and chain belts. Hair was short, sometimes even shaved with no guard or a razor.

White Power Skinhead (Neo-Nazi Skinhead)
Army pants, T-shirts, higher boots and shave their heads are either grade #0 or with a razor. They wear badges, chains and rings, also common are tattoos, featuring white power slogans or Nazi symbols.

For more information on the Skinhead Subculture you may want to check out this documentary on you-tube called Skinhead Attitude that was made in 2003. Skinheads are also represented in popular movie This Is England.
