Outerwear Roundup: January ’14’s Good, Bad and Completely Traumatising

Don’t forget about my giveaway. If you look Gothy characters, with great style and Hoodoo plot you’ll love this. There’s less than three days until it ends. Don’t forget to fill out the rafflecopter widget at the bottom of the post (that can be easily found by clicking right here)!

This post on outerwear for Sophistique Noirs monthly theme isn’t my usual outfit post. (Check her out for the love of goth here! – Are agnostics even allowed to make religious puns?)  Instead it’s a kind of wishlist outlining some things that I want, that I’ve bought and that just were not meant to be throughout the month of January.

The Good

I bought two new coats from my usual leather jacket place, SheInside. They haven’t arrived yet but I’m really excited because I’ve been wanting a faux fur leopard print coat for what seems like forever. The other is a straighter styled black coat with fake leather trim. I wanted something that would be easier to pair than the coat pictured below that overwhelms any outfit. Both were on sale!

The Bad

As for something bad I was a bit stumped for this one. Instead I’ll list things I want but probably won’t get for some time. (Boo to not being able to buy everything in the world right this second!) The first is a utilitarian style anorak in a military style and on that note a military coat that isn’t too heavy or offensive – but that’s kind of what my dreams are made of rather than anything I’ll actually stumble upon. Other than that I would love a denim jacket – preferably in a darker wash or with kickass patches. Which brings us to the traumatising.

The Traumatising

Currently I’ve been obsessed with adding statement pieces to my wardrobe (I’ve felt really boring; do any of you know this feeling?), so of course I decided to browse the Hot Topic website. Unbeknownst to me, upon falling in love with a certain denim jacket I found they actually have the most ridiculously high international shipping (even for Canadians). But I was determined, I was so far into the mindset that if I didn’t have this jacket I would probably died purely from lacking it. It was then I found that those outside of the US can’t use Paypal. Searching the internet and finding nothing but Amazon had to convince me that it must not have meant ‘to be’. Que first world disappointment.

Do you guys get so invested in items that you would probably battle to the death for them? It can’t just be me! What are your outerwear wishes and woes of the new(ish) year?

Working Colour Into Your Wardrobe: Tips, Tricks & An Ode To Purple

It may not seem it by looking at the clothes I wear or even my blog but when someone asks me what my favourite colour is I don’t say black – I say burgundy.

When I first read about Sophistique Noirs love of the colour purple it made me think of my love of burgandy and of how these colours are often worked into darker wardrobes. So, below I’m going to be talking about how you can compliment all those tones of black with an edge of colour.

 My Ode To Purple Goth-fashion!

Guys, try not to hate my collage too much since I worked on it for six hours and nearly died of exhaustion because apparently I’m ridiculously bad at making these things. Hopefully, I’ll get better in the future.

 Tips And Tricks

  • Colour makes it so much easier to diversify outfits and will always bring a different touch to an outfit you’ve worn a thousand times but it doesn’t have to be a huge change!
  • When going with a bold colour try using it as a running theme throughout the outfit and accessories.
  • Cyber Goth isn’t the only subculture of which to be inspired. Punk, Panda-Popare, Grunge, Kinderwhore are also notable for darker outfits with colours.
  • Work colour into different textures, such as purple fishnets or a red chiffon scarf worn around your head.
  • Wear sheer clothes or lace items over muted reds and purples.

  • Belts are great for separating different patterns and/or materials (for instance plaid and velvet) but are also good for adding giant pops of colour.
  • Patterns with tinges of colour in them are brilliant when you aren’t used to colour. It gives a hint of colour but doesn’t overwhelm.
  • Patterned, stripped or fishnet stockings!
  • Jewellery with ruby, amethyst and jade tones work well with black and don’t take away that dark edge.
  • The simplest and cheapest way to add pops of colour is in your make up! Try a bright purple lip or a heavy plum?

How do you add colour into your wardrobe? Or are you more of a black on black person, like myself? Also, be sure to check out Sophistique Noir’s monthly theme of purple!

Outfit Post: New Year, New Hair, New Years Outfit

Disclaimer: This is a post for Sophistique Noir’s Monthly Theme of New Years. I urge you to check it out by clicking the button bellow and to check out all the other wonderful entries [here] and certainly Sophistique Noir’s blog itself!

Hey guys! This year so far is off to a great start. But my optimism could possibly be espresso fueled. It’s safe to say that while I’m happy for a new year I’m so frightened of so many things e.g. moving to a new town without the help of my parents and starting university. I think it’s worth while to start out the year experimenting with a few things and taking chances so that’s exactly what this outfit post is all about.

I’ve been wanting to cut my hair for a while, or at least change it drastically. My personality is that of someone that needs some change every now and then otherwise I’ll drown in a rut of boredom. At first in the last month I was considering it but I was so frightened. This fright really made me realise I needed to cut my hair. The last thing I want to be frightened of is protecting something as unimportant as my hair and I wanted to do this to remind myself that appearance isn’t the most important thing in the world.

The act itself was a little less hyped. It played out exactly like: “Coen, do you think I should cut my hair?” “Whatever”. So I grabbed the scissors, went into the bathroom and in the next five minutes was finished.

Six inches and ten months of hair growth gone!

The outfit picture is rather terrible but we were about to leave for a friends party and it was as hot as hell outside which I was not prepared to face. The leopard print dress I’m wearing was a bit of a spur of the moment buy. I regretted buying it almost immediately because I didn’t think I would wear something that isn’t black – so far that thought has been completely wrong. On the other hand while thinking about my style journey I wanted to add a bit more punk into my wardrobe and this was the dress for it – perfect with a leather jacket!

It’s certainly different than everything else in my closet!

      Outfit:

      Dress: Jay Jays.
      Stockings: Anonymous.
      Shoes: Cotton On.
      Belt: Boohoo.com.
      Necklace: EBay.

Anyway, I spent my New Years drinking milky alcohol with a bunch of my friends, ending up sleeping on the floor of a tent fully clothed with only Coen as a blanket. How did you spend your New Years? Are you getting a jump start on your resolutions or goals?

      November Theme: Hoisery

It’s no doubt that looking back over my blog I love stockings, socks, and their many variations but there is nothing I love more than some layered fishnets, ripped stockings and some stripes which in the past have been a big statement of mine. Unfortunately I haven’t worn my lovely layered loves (too many ‘l’s!) in a long time. But here are some pictures! I was really excited in participating but in all honesty I spent the day in my pajamas’s obsessing and reading The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes and now, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (after that branding off into the other original novels).

Anyway! Here are some old pictures of my lovely stockings that way I love them.

Those safety pins actually aren’t for decoration as much as
physically holding the stockings together. :3

I might begin to wear the stockings a lot more during the summer as all of my fishnets and stripes are cropped for use with a garters anyway.

      Best wishes,
      -Sary.

Plus I can’t wait to see everyone else’s posts for Sophistique Noir’s monthly theme! Unlike rings and other such themes (of which I have none) this is a theme I can really stick my teeth into!

Outfit Post: Of someone that isn’t me!

This is of course for the Sophistique Noir’s challenge of Someone Special. Of course, while I love my boyfriend, he isn’t much of a fashion person, nor a picture person (he actually hates cameras). Instead I chose my four best friends and an outfit post from one of them! Mostly, because I could only track down one at the last minute. Also, since Sarah (the said friend) lives about ten hours away from me these are her own, photos. I’ve watermarked them just for safety purposes because I know I’ve had people steal my articles before.

These are my closest friends. The Sarah in mention is the one with
orange hair. Kaylie has her natural red hawk hidden away. The Xara in question is the artist I keep mentioning about making my banner. For the record this was taken mid winter when the sun was setting on our old favourite place that is being torn down for generic houses to be built across it.

      Outfits!

Yes, she actually is that thin.

Looking at these pictures I feel as if my friend has grown up a lot while being away. I’m rather the mother of my group – it’s a constant joke but I have this need to look after my friends. Sarah has been my friend for eight years and I consider her my complete opposite.

      Dress/jumper/shirt: Gifted.
Belt: JayJays (I don’t think they’re outside of Australia)
      Leggings: EBay
Boots: EBay (Pretty sure they’re Demonia.)

Outfit: All Ebay. She lives in a pretty secluded town. Hehe!
I hope you enjoyed this post that was a little different than I would usually post.
      Best wishes,
      -Sary

RED AND BLACK; I made it just in time.

Thank god I received my SD converter today; just so you know, it’s absolutely beautiful. I really wanted to participate in Red and Black week and hope we will have more in the future. Oh course I jsut fiddled with some make up. It’s definitely red and black and I incorporated my new fangs into it because every one knows taht red and black goes fantastically with vampires, the traditional type anyway, no matter how mall goth it may seem. So here it goes, my Red and Black themed make up.

I had to lighten this photo a lot for it to be visible. I only really looked
at the pictures hours after taking them and couldn’t be bothered to take another.
It used liquid eye liner on the bottom outer lash line. I then created a wing and filled it in with the liquid liner. I lined the inside corner slight. Next I added red shadow the the inner corners and across the lid to ‘meet’ the black. I used a black grey to blend (horribly). I added red shadow to the inner corner of my lower lash line and fixed up the inner corner liquid liner. I added dots to my brow bone, which are somewhat hidden and a dot beside the inner corner of my eyes. Then, of course, mascara.

One of my fangs along with my red lipstick. Honestly that red lipstick accidentally got into the fang! They are very reasonably priced Bloody Mary fangs and no I would not recommend then for anyone that can afford better.

Lastly, a dramatic picture of me. I cut my fringe so I have bangs now. Did you notice? I doubt it!

I hope you enjoyed Black and Red week that was created by the lovely and always fashionably VictorianKitty at Sophistique Noir.

      Bye!
