Trick or Treat: Goth Halloween Songs!

In the future (the very soon future) I’m hoping to do a larger post on Goth-Rock and Rock-related Halloween music. So if you have any songs that jump out at you that might fit please, please let me know! I never feature any music on my blog that I wouldn’t listen to myself, so it’s a bit hard to find songs in such small a category: Goth rock + Halloween related + I actually like it.

It’s nearly the Halloween season (as in October) and that means it’s time to get into the spooky spirit. Last year I did a top four Halloween songs that were more traditional. This year I thought I’d focus more on Goth-Rock Halloween songs. And so, here are my four absolute favourites!

They aren’t the typical bands I’d listen to (aka, they aren’t The Cure or Stevie Nicks), so I’m glad I found them, fell in love and now I have music I haven’t listened to a thousand times before to add into my collection!

What do you think? Do you have a Halloween playlist?

Poll of the Week: Trad-Goth.

Link – A young Dave Vanian, lead singer of The Damned and my newest celebrity crush.

Recently I was reading a series of articles on The History of Deathrock, which you can find here, here and here, plus some articles on Post-Punk which brought up a question. Did Trad-Goth music (in which I mean Post-Punk/Positive Punk and earlier Goth Rock) die in the late eighties to the rise of electronic bands? Personally I would say no, I listen to and love this style of music and am always trying to expand my knowledge of it but there are a lot of younger (which is strange because I’m only eighteen) alternative people that don’t even understand the term post-punk yet are trying to make video’s and the like on Goth Rock and other such genres.

This is becoming a bit of a rant so I’ll cut to the chase: Do you enjoy Trad-Goth/Post-Punk/Early Goth Bands?

  • Yes.
  • No.
  • What is that?

Iif you believe there should be another option in the post post below why and if you have an opinion on whether Trad-Goth is dead I would love to hear your opinion.

Day 7 – Ten of your favourite goth bands.

These are in no particular order.

1. Rose Noir: Especially this song but the majority of Rose Noir’s music is just so beautiful with the violin and structured but edgy guitar riffs.

2. The Cure – It’s obvious that I adore The Cure, to pieces.

3.The Gothsicles – This is also one of my favourite industrial dancers. An old video, his newer one’s are so much better.

4. Jack Off Jill – SOme would propose that this is more Punk than Goth but eh.

5. Claire Voyant – I found this band while trolling Youtube for the Gypsy 83 soundtrack.

6. Switchblade Symphony – Witches was the first ever traditional Goth song I’d heard.

7. Solitary Experiments – I love love LOVE this band; just love.

8. Wolfsheim – Another band that I LOVE to death.

9. Joy division! –  One of my first Gothy favourites.

 10. Depeche Mode -Another Video by my favourite dancer.

Enjoy! There are so many more bands that I like that I wish I could add to this list.
